A New Housing Development

Birdhouse Development that is...

Rose built another big batch of bird houses over the weekend (16) total,  yes sixteen!  She nailed and screwed all the piece parts together yesterday, we can't paint them this year as we used rough-cut lumber for their construction and the moisture content would peel the paint, she may paint them next year.  Painted birdhouses make it so much easier to discuss the different breeds of birds in the houses as we see them coming and going throughout the year. You will routinely hear Rose say something about "the Bluebirds in the Pink birdhouse", or "look is that the Phoebe checking out the yellow house",  I don't have to scan the entire field just the Pink birdhouse to see what she is referencing.

She removed all of the existing ten year old birdhouses today irritating many of the birds that are already paired off, mating, and looking for a home.  The old houses had really seen better days, it was time for a new housing development.  Rose was able to get 13 of the sixteen birdhouses put up today.

We already had a pair of Bluebirds in one of the houses, remains to be seen if they'll come back to a new house.

Rose said the flock that usually lives in these birdhouses normally spread out over the 5 acres followed her from house to house and field to field checking out the new birdhouses.

SNOW!!!
We're supposed to get 4-8 inches of snow depending on who you listen to, this will be the first significant snow for us this year.  We have about an inch of ice covering the ground in most places but looking around the yard most of the ground is now bare as it's been in the 40s and 50s the past week or so.

I am kinda glad it'll cool off a bit here.  Mud season is in full swing here with the dogs, especially Harley the racing lab tearing up the mushy lawn.

Mrs. Searle's Kale Soup!

Rose and I made up a good sized batch of soup using Johnnie's (Mrs. Searle's) recipe last night.  It came out awesome as it always does, brings back some good memories too.

Kale soup and a nice loaf of fresh bread, Yum.
