Far Out-Heimo's Arctic Refuge: "This video provides a short glimpse into the life of one of the last frontiersmen. Heimo Korth, a Wisconsin native, moved to Alaska in 1975 at the age of twenty. Eventually he build his own cabin, and married a native woman, Edna. His cabin is currently located in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. Current construction is prohibited, but Heimo is allowed to live there because his property was build before the refuge was established.
There is also a book about Heimo’s journey, titled The Final Frontiersman."

The Supermoon March 2011
The SuperMoon as they've been calling it.
NASA Says: "On March 19th, a full Moon of rare size and beauty will rise in the east at sunset. It's a super "perigee moon"--the biggest in almost 20 years."
Guess that is something, I didn't notice it looking particularly larger though it did appear brighter.
The effects of the moon could be heard, the neighborhood dogs raised a ruckus Friday night, more than this evening, you could hear them barking for miles around, maybe the deer are running, coyotes, and foxes are probably out as well, the animals are awakening after the long winter. I saw numerous not so lucky roadkill critters for the first time this Spring in the form of woodchucks, numerous skunks, and a mink or weasel (Not sure, I know it wasn't a muskrat, it was very slim).
These shots were taken shortly after moonrise at ~7:45pm EST.
I have to get a bigger lens, that's all there is to it... These shots were taken with a Canon EF 75-300 4-5.6 lens.
See the Jet Airliner I caught at the bottom of the moon in this shot? Cool!
I'll have to head out in a little while to catch some more as it rises further into the night sky.

Spring, it's official
Spring has finally come to New Hampshire, well my part of it anyway. The Daffodils have managed to push up as the snow cover cleared.
I noticed the pussy willows are starting to open up in the field. As there is still 1-2 feet of snow there I'll have to put the boots on to make the yearly pilgrimage out to cut some. You can't wait to long with pussy willows or the catkins will start to fall off.
I'll let you know how I make out.

The pups are growing up!

'Twas a dark and dreary night...
Nice out tonight, so I snuck out to take a couple fog pics. I'm not complaining, the snows still melting. We still have probably a good 12-18" on the ground on top of a good 4" of ice. We actually have one or two bare ground spots where we've cleared the snow. I saw the first three Mallard ducks of the season, and a Great Blue Heron on my way to work this morning. James and Jason are over tonight to play WII (Donkey Kong Returns).
