Powerless still...

We're still powerless, local stations are pumping fuel now making it easier. We have heat and the freezers aren't going to thaw out so long as I can get fuel for the genny, so as long as it takes we're warm and toasty. I do think we're going to get the water pump connected to the granny and a propane water heater to replace the electric one we have now.

Nor'Easter Progressing in NH

We have  a solid 12" on the ground and no signs of it letting up.  Our lights flickered a couple times, we lost Satellite signal so Rose is watching the DVR movies I've been recording from the 31 days of Halloween (Nice feature of the DVR...).

I went outside 10 mins ago to take some pics, and it is very quiet out there, transformers are popping in the distance off to our East, trees are bent over to the breaking point you can hear them cracking.  It's not windy here, Mom said it was breezy in Merrimack earlier when we called.

It'll be interesting to see what it looks like in the AM.

Stay Warm!

Justin Goodrich on NSFW

If you're a techie you probably know about Leo Laporte's TWIT network.
Jarrod called tonight to tell me (Knowing I am a fan of the TWIT Network) that Justin was musical guest on the NSFW show.

Leo's team was happy to have TWIT listeners contacted them to be on the show.  Leo liked the idea, stopped in to the show, purchased some music, and talked away, Jarrod reports Leo is just like he is on the show,  imagine that...

Justin was the musical guest for the show Occupy Oatmeal NSFW #99 ,  Leo liked Justin's music.

Musical Guest: Justin Goodrich

Congrats guys!

Ol' Man Winters a Comin'

I saw a Coyote on the way home from work tonight, right on RT114 in Goffstown. It was just about dusk ~6pm he ran right across the road in front of the car about 20 feet out.  He turned and looked right at me as he ran across the road, wish I had more time to watch him, time flies at 45 mph, he was across the road and headed down the embankment to my left in a second.  It's been more than 6 years now since we heard them calling in the evenings up on the hill heading up towards Weare from our place.

A Nor'Easter on Saturday, Six to Twelve yeah I said it 6-12" of heavy, wet, power outage causing snow.  Glad we got the genny up out of storage last weekend, talk about timing.

I ordered a replacement combustion blower for the St'Croix Pellet stove last weekend, (Stove won't drop pellets unless this blower is functioning) I'm hoping it arrives soon. Stove shop told us it'd be here on Monday (5 days ago) and no call yet.  I may have to go elsewhere for the part.  It's not our only stove but is the larger of the two pellet stoves we heat with.

Don Sanborn "Magician" Performs in Merrimack

Don Sanborn Performed Feats of Magic in Merrimack on Sunday for a packed house.

Prestidigitation, Rope tricks, cards, and general Hocus-Pocus were the order of the evening, those in attendance for this evening of magic and mystery will not soon forget.

The crowd was mesmerized, adults and children alike were taken in to a world of magic conjured up by Don Sanborn on this special night.

We have borne witness as cards flew across the room, smoke mysteriously appeared, and ropes, the mysteries of the ropes are legendary and were artfully performed this evening.

The children laughed and at times hid, and the adults howled at the comic timing of the card tricks and magical sleight of hand.

A grand evening was had by all!

To top this off there was a wait for it... a little Dog Too!

Great Show, Well Done!

Potato Crop of 2011 was disappointing

The Tater crop of 2011 'twas a poor year for taters...'
Something ate probably 60% of my potatoes this year, a bit disappointed, I'm going to start them in 3x3' boxes next year, 9 to a box adding soil and mulch as the plants grow. I can better control the bugs, the water, and the weather if need be in a raised bed.

Yukon Golds and Kennebec's fared the worse, out own (Maine's) "all purpose whites" that sprouted eyes did the best overall.

Wait'll next year!

Giant Pumpkins in Goffstown

The giant Pumpkins were out at Goffstown's 250th celebration last weekend. James and Jason's Mammoth Pumpkin came in at about 70 pounds, maybe next year guys... The vines spread out in 4 different directions of about 30 feet, we didn't do anything fancy other than water, some hand pollinate, some pluck all but one Pumpkin from the vines so the plant focuses all of it's energy on the one pumpkin, etc. Maybe we'll try some those ideas next year.

Steve Jobs Has Passed Away

Back From Canada!

I'm back, nice uneventful drive back from Canada.  There is some beautiful farmland in Canada that seems to go on forever.  Like here in NH the trees in Canada have just started to turn with the swamp maples taking the lead.

Rose and I picked the remaining Peppers due to the frost warning it's a good thing we did. Looks like potato digging this weekend.

We found another Great Pumpkin in the patch probably 50-75 pounds.

I woke up this morning to 32 Degrees F.  and the first frost of the season.

I can almost taste the Kale Soup, now that the Kale was frosted last night we'll have to get the ingredients together to make a couple big pots.

Pigeon days

This all white pigeon stopped by the house for a couple days last week.

Jarrod stopped by to make sure he could fly and that he could see all right, as we all assumed it must be hurt as it pretty much adopted us at first site. It turns out he was fine, his eyes, feathers and legs all appeared just fine. Rose kept him well fed, after a couple days of cracked corn and bird seed. She built the bird a roost box to no avail, and after spending a couple days sitting on the power line to the house in the rain, off it flew...

Never a dull moment...
