Rose and I worked on Fall Stuff...

Rose and I worked in the shop Friday I took the day off, I straightened up a couple benches putting stuff away, the shop is too crowded, Rose worked on the birdhouses while I changed out another shop light from fluorescent to LED bulbs.

We still need a lot of rain, not too much though, careful for what I wish for...

I heard a critter at 4am this morning down in the basement, we'll work on that today.

I stayed up til 10om to see if we could see the northern lights last night, nope, maybe Saturday night.

Drama in the deer yard on Saturday morning around 8AM as a hawk was trying to take out a crow three times he attempted to catch the same crow, other crows stayed on the ground as this unfolded.

Well the port strike ended, until January 15th anyway😣
 

We got a light rain Saturday morning,  good for the grass!

Took a walk down to the pond, water level is REALLY LOW 9-10' of bank now, the neighbors pond across the street is only mud now.

A stunning grey doe and her two fawns came into the deer yard late afternoon on Saturday.

Pretty grey doe, a little on the thin side but pretty anyway.

HURRICANE HELENE

Hurricane Helene has become one of the deadliest hurricanes in the United States, at least since the emergence of modern weather forecasting.

It's beyond sad to watch the governments slow motion train-wreck of a response or lack thereof in North/South Carolina, Georgia, Tennessee, and Florida while people are dead and dying.  We're seeing hundreds of folks in the forums saying they have yet to see anyone from any government agency. FEMA RED-CROSS, nobody!  Thank God for ordinary folks helping anyway they can as OUR government slow tracks a response!  The military is now involved, finally being allowed into the area doing what they can getting folks out and dropping supplies, it's not the military's fault these are great folks doing what they can, when they are allowed to It's the POORLY MANAGED GOVERNMENT BUREAUCRACY holding everything back!

Keep in mind as you watch it that Biden said the states affected by Hurricane Helene are getting everything they need and are “very happy.” 

There isn’t a single federal entity in this town helping these people, and they’re already on day six! WTF?!

The week that was... October

BUSY BUSY...

Rose and I went food shopping Saturday night, we're shocked at the prices every single time...

Starlings are coming to the deer yard in droves playing clean-up for us.

I have learned that no matter how old you get to be, you still may not always know what the hell you're doing.  Seems every time I go to the airport, TSA requirements differ, (Shoes on, shoes off?, Belt off? Liquid bottles out or not, All electronic devices out, or just all electronic devices larger than a cell phone) it varies at each and every airport.

 

Rose and I moved the windmill out to the field, we've got a WICKED case of might as well's today, moved a birdhouse pole, Rose has been busy sawing parts to replace 25 birdhouses with brand new ones!

 

We needed to empty out the shop-vac in the shop we use for dust collection, got the pile of dust swept up and emptied the vac into the trailer and out to the burn pile it went. 

 

While we're at it a crappy piece of 3/8" drywall was coming down on the ceiling so I pulled that down.  Once that was down, we have a bunch of 25 year old florescent bulbs in fixtures that are no longer working, sheesh... we had 4 new florescent fixtures we bought years ago so I hung one of the new fixtures up, we actually had 3 new bulbs in a box, popped two bulbs in and away we go.

 

We're both beat! So much to do, so little time!

James came over for dinner, it was great to see him, we don't get to see the boys often enough!  There were two deer caught crossing the road no doubt headed for the deer yard.  We stopped to let them go by but they spooked and ran back from where they came, they'll wait a bit then try crossing the road again.

It was 49 degrees on Monday morning here, I fired up the pellet stove, it fired right up!  Yay!

I made up a chicken stock from the roasted chickens we purchased Sunday, carrots, celery, and onion.

Rose worked on birdhouses Monday and Tuesday she already has a bunch done!

Getting to be that time, we changed the batteries in the video doorbell.  Changed a flickering LED bulb in the kitchen.

We got the 4' LED bulbs in for the workshop to replace the fluorescent bulbs!

We got a good rain Thursday, not enough but it'll help the grass seed sprout.

 

They are talking about a flash drought now, great.

A lone doe came into deer yard last night, it's been weeks since we saw the bucks that came in nightly for a while.

Rose and Crystal went to Heather's baby shower, they had a good time getting to see everyone.

Stopped by Mom and Dads to drop off a few easy meals Sunday.  Then off to Tractor Supply, Deer blocks, dog food, grain, and some chainsaw supplies.  After using my chainsaw last week I realized it really needs sharpening, need to do that before winter so it's ready for winter tree falls.

The East dock workers strike is happening starting on Tuesday!  There is a strike on the verge of happening Tuesday Oct 1 that could cripple our economy and could leave store shelves bare by shutting down ports that handle 68% of our country’s containerized exports and 56% of containerized imports.  For every single day they strike it could take 6 days to catch up. Meaning just a 5 day strike could take a month to unload and load ships at ports up and down the East coasts and Gulf coasts!

Helene hit North Carolina, Georgia, Florida and Tennessee bad, these folks are hurting bad, a couple of Dams have failed.  No power, no internet, powers out, stores are al closed!

Rose and I went out to try out the new machine, we filled a large dip at the top of the front yard with gravel then loam, top dressed and leveled it out, it looks great. 

Saturday morning we started moving gravel up onto the side hill, top dressed it with loam, leveled as best I could with the machine and then Rose went to work on it with a rake.

It looks great too, much wider than before, and the slope is gone.  The dogs approve too.

We have granite slabs for steps we removed years ago to replace the siding on  that side of the house, the base slab was in place but the top step was on the ground in front of the bottom step.  The skid steer picked it up like it was nothing, I slowly pushed the 600+ pound stone up, over and onto the bottom piece and pushed it up against the house.  We have stairs again.  (We don't use that kitchen door anyway, there's a freezer up against it in the kitchen) 

I took the skid steer out to the field and removed a bunch of wild roses that got huge.

I drove it over to our burn pile and easily pushed the pile back 10'-20'+ on each side, I finished one side we'll do more Sunday.  Rose wants to learn to drive it too!

We already have plans to rent another machine next year!  Doing what we do manually is painful.

The Mosquitos are back in the evenings now.

Skunk came in around 9:30 PM Saturday night, whew what a smell.

We got the skid steer cleaned up and ready for pickup Monday morning.

Rose made a fantastic Meatloaf we ate it Saturday, and finished it off on Sunday!

Crock Pot Season Is Nearly Here. I can't wait!

Rose thinks the hummingbirds have headed south for the winter.  The yellow-jackets are gone too!   Early winter?

Rose and I took the cabana cover down Tuesday, summer's over.

A flock of crows was out in the field Thursday morning, at the burn pile and the block.

I saw 100+ robins flocked in the field by the nursing home today on my way home from work.

Two traveling trips in a couple weeks, I visited one of my facilities in Kenosha Wisconsin for a go-live event for a warehouse management project, then this past week I was in Fort Mill SC. to close the facility.  I hate flying, I'd hoped it would get better, nope!   It's so nice to be back home!

We finally got some rain Saturday the 21st maybe just maybe there's a small chance my new grass seed will grow.
