It's the last week in August already!
I finally got my haircut, we came into the house Rose went upstairs, I was in the dining room and heard a loud bang in the kitchen like something fell off the counter I went in and looked around but saw nothing out of place or on the floor, I told rose I'd heard a bang in the kitchen, a little while later I heard Rose sat "Donnie" I went in to see what she wanted, she'd opened the small fridge to discover a Diet Coke had exploded in the fridge! What a mess we removed the contents and pulled out all the shelved to wash them putting it all back, there were 3 small soda cans in the sink that were swollen from being partially frozen along the back wall of the fridge, Rose was rinsing the sink and one of the sodas exploded in the sink, she was soaked in soda, funny, not funny, she took it in stride and we moved on. What an ending to vacation...
Monday I'm back to work today.
We finally got our OIL pre-buy contract from Haffner Oil today $3.299/gallon. We pre buy all the oil needed for the year in cash.
Gasoline prices are rising again... We were paying $2.87 a couple weeks ago.
We finished the back window flashing on the shop, Rose is caulking the cracks and painting the battens and back wall. It's looking great!
Fall is definitely in the air, it was 55 degrees this morning. It's almost pellet stove season, we've yet to get our ton of pellets for the year, we still have a ton from last year, we burn between 2-3 tons over a normal winter. I'll need to give the stove a good cleaning before burning season starts.
“Happiness often sneaks in through a door you didn’t know you left open.”– John Barrymore
"We belong to something greater than ourselves. As complex and diverse and discordant as it is, this thing, this idea called America, binds us together in citizenship and community and brotherhood."
It was 44 degrees Thursday morning Fall is here for sure, we'll start prepping for the coming winter soon enough.
Rose made up lunches and dinners for Mom and Dad it's our week to drop off some easy meals.
Amish Barn raising over 10 hour timelapse.
Starship's upper stage landing looking like it's right out of a Buck Rogers movie.
Nice day Saturday, we dropped off some groceries at Mom & Dads, we couldn't stay long, we're working on replacing the window frame on the back of the shop.
I disconnected the propane tanks on the shop, James stopped by around 2pm to give me a hand moving the 100lb tanks, we put them on a trailer and drove them up to the house, slid them onto a dolly and put them next to the run in shed strapping them to the shed.
We had a great grilled dinner, steak, potatoes and corn, everything was awesome.
A bunch of Robins were up in the Black Cherry trees feasting on the berries. I saw my first Cedar Waxwing also enjoying the berries.
Nobody won Powerball again on Saturday evening, it was up over 1 Billion dollars, next draw ??? Nobody won again...
Rose finished painting the second coat on the workshop, I installed the last two soffit boards on the road side and then removed the propane lines, wood stove pipes and propane stove exhaust pipes. Removed the trim around the stove pipes, trimmed the batten boards. Rose scraped the windows panes for the big window we'll install along with the soffit battens on Monday.
We hit Lowe's Sunday night and ordered the roofing panels for the door side of the workshop, the shop was built so close to the barn that the water coming off the barn keeps that wall wet all the time. The panels will be delivered next week.
Monday, It's Labor Day!
Monday, Labor Day! I took out the gas heater pipe from the shop, I'd forgotten it. We installed the soffit battens, installed the window in the back wall and put up the window shutters. Looks good. We finished the back, moving on now.
We found another Yellow Jacket nest in the ground near the barn, we're walking by it all the time. I grabbed a can of spray and sprayed the entrance.
Powerball 1.1 Billion dollars we got a couple quick picks.
And no tickets matched, Powerball goes to 1.3 Billion $$$ for Wednesday
Rose was prepping the roadside of the shop for paint and framed out the old wood stove vent. We went down after dinner and put a piece of plywood over the frame.
Sprayed the yellow jacket nest by the barn again, Tuesday evening, Wednesday I was bringing the trash out for pickup and noticed that they are still flying in and out! ugh, damned hard to kill these guys.
Wednesday 3:17AM a pair of Coyotes came in chasing a doe out of the yard.
Later 4 does, then two does and a couple fawns came in.
It is finally time in 2025 for a new awakening to move away from past ideologies and partisan party politics to a world of facts, cognitive solution processes, and reality. President Trump is the only global leader employing this problem-solving method, which involves identifying a problem and then developing a plan to address it. This is what I call analyzing “reality” (the facts) and issues, and devising specific solutions.
Americans do not want the Democrats to hold power because they have no plan or answers to our problems except to hate Trump and lure us into giving them power, their only real objective. This sentiment reflects a growing frustration among voters who seek tangible solutions rather than partisan rhetoric. The Dems’ total lack of common sense is extraordinary. They can’t figure out that if something is dirty, you clean it. If something doesn’t work, you fix it. People are looking for leaders who can address pressing issues like the economy, crime, healthcare, and national security with actionable and effective strategies, not political quips.
