Ode to Zeb
Born March 23rd 2019 - May 1st 2026 - 7 Years
We had to say goodbye to an amazing friend, and protector on Friday.
Zebulon (Zeb) Sanborn our beloved GSD "German Shepherd Dog" Zebulon, Zeb, Zebber, Scallywag, all names we'd given that he happily came to.
Our ZebZeb watching his Mom through the dining room window! Sitting in the shade beside the screen houseI got a stick Dad, he'd raided the woodpile for the fire pitI dropped my ball Mom can you get it??
Our gentle boy Zeb passed last night, our big beautiful boy, sidekick to Rose, he'd never harm a soul, he was a ball lover, tennis sized, softball sized, and basketballs, he loved them all. Zeb'd sit with Rose and look to her when he saw anything odd, "You see that Mom?" looking toward a passing bobcat 20 feet away, or the box turtle by the maple trees. He had a gentle loving demeanor, loved giving hugs burying his head under your arm. He'd saved my Rose a couple times when she'd fallen on the ice seemingly understanding she needed help getting back up standing beside her allowing her to use him to right herself. He way always awaiting our arrival at the front door, ready to greet us, and getting a ball to play a quick game of catch, Zeb was the best catcher! He was Rose's constant companion for the 7 years he was with us, following her everywhere, always there, always looking to help. Zeb had an amazing bark being a large German Shepherd, WuW, Wuh, Wuh, a deep bellow would come out of him, you just knew something was wrong if you heard it.
Rose noticed it looked like Zeb had put on a little weight on Thursday, otherwise he seemed a little sore from roughhousing with Winston but fine, she gave him a doggy ibuprofen Thursday evening and soon he was back to his old happy self.
Friday morning he wouldn't eat breakfast, very unusual, we called the vet and saw them at 2:30pm, they said nope you take him to the Manchester Emergency Veterinary Hospital right away. We drove there right away they saw us within minutes of our arrival, they took Zeb out to get a quick scan and discovered he had a large mass on his liver that was bleeding into his belly. He couldn't beat this, we both held and patted him as he passed peacefully hopefully greeted by Hanna Belle, Harley and all our other angel dogs that have graced our life.
So many reminders of our Zebulon around the house, making it hard, putting a smile or a tear on our face in that remembrance!
Love you Zeb, we miss you so much already!
