The End of April

Reminder it's still spring, it was 28 degrees Monday morning.

We filled up 6 jugs this evening at $3.78 a gallon tonight, we've been waiting for it to go down.

Twenty-five degrees Tuesday AM, All the stores around have their plants out, wonder what the losses will be?

Tuesday I cleaned the air filter on the DR weed whacker, it was dirty, I added fresh gas but it still wouldn't start. It took a hit of starting fluid before it came to life.

Gas was back up to $4.00 in town, glad we filled up the gas jugs and my car on Monday

Rose has been spraying weed/grass killer around bird poles and borders of the sheds, etc. It'll make mowing a lot quicker and easier.

Wednesday another frost

Home Depot Free Delivery, I was at their website, needed Wood Pellets, We're out of pellets for the stove, it's still cool in the mornings, and evenings! They are delivering 6 bags of pellets NEXT DAY for free. How can they do that?

Thursday James stopped over for dinner. It was great to see him.

Friday Rose swapped some of the solar lights around and put up more on the back of the house, we now have solar lighting all around the house, and sheds.

3-4 deer coming in every evening before dark now.

Coyote came through early Saturday morning. It'd been a while since we saw her, probably has pups.

It's Spring and yes we're busy, our list is long, hard things don’t get easier if we don’t do them.

Saturday is a work day we're taking out some apple branches, and an elm tree. Along with usual unplanned things per usual! We cleared 30 feet of bank of Wild Rose, raspberry brambles and vines with loppers and our hedge trimmer, Rose sprayed several areas to keep them at bay for a while, I mowed the lower field before the rains come next week we're supposed to get 5 days of rain.

Sunday another workday, Rose sprayed some more, and did some weedwhacking on the back hill, I mowed up and down the back hill to ensure I didn't rollover. I cleared and raked the dead grass from under and around the solar array and mowed some more field. Dinner was bacon cheeseburgers with potato salad.

We brought in the Air conditioner for the dining room. Rose brought in the Hummingbird feeders and made up some sugar water for them.

We're both still adjusting to the increased physical demands of the spring season after a more sedentary winter.

No ticks on us over the weekend, Rose found one on Zebulon though.

Rose filled and put up the hummingbird feeders, and lo and behold a few hours later we had one on the feeder! First Hummer of the year! Talk about great timing! Rose said she put it out a week earlier than she usually did.

The yard and fields are looking amazing already and we're not done yet.

We're going to relocate the solar array this year, I need to trench for the solar cable that goes from the solar panels to the charge controller in the basement about 100'.

The Bluebirds and Tree Swallows are still trying to figure out which of the 40 or so birdhouses Rose made they will settle in this year.

Lots blooming in the yard, the forsythia have been blooming for a week or so, the Weeping cherry is absolutely covered in bees, from big bumblebees to tiny mason and carpenter bees, honey bees too. Dads Plum tree will flower over the next week.

Monday evening and the Pollen is CRAZY, that isn't rain or snow in the pic, it's Pollen, yikes... just look at this deer pic out in the main deer-yard last night!

I'm hoping we're done with frosts, we got a frost last spring that decimated all the fruit tree blossoms, no apples or plums at all last year, the drought didn't help either.

I'll put the mosquito dunks in the spring, lake Chloe, and the pond this weekend. We've seen a few mosquitos, (they're coming!) this week it's mostly black flies. The tree swallows are loving it.

We have a Phoebe nesting on the back of the barn, Rose put up another platform next to the existing one.

The Wrens are back we saw them in the back yard.

The ticks are still here, I found one on the back of my arm after taking the trash out Wednesday, jeesh.

To relatively little fanfare, when one considers the economic, political, and geopolitical implications, Pres. Trump withdrew the United States from 66 international organizations, agreements, and/or treaties covering a vast array of public policies.

It ties this to warmer nighttime temperatures and implies that fires “used to die down or even die out at night” but now persist because of climate change.

That framing is historically inaccurate.
Wildfires do not “go to sleep” because the clock strikes sunset. They slow when humidity rises, temperatures fall, and winds calm. When those meteorological conditions do not improve at night, fires continue to burn. That has always been true.
Both of the major fires cited by the AP were driven by extreme wind events, not by some novel nighttime warming effect.

First Lady Melania Trump isn’t laughing – and she’s making sure everyone knows it. After late-night host Jimmy Kimmel joked during a parody monologue that Melania had the glow of an “expectant widow,” things went from punchline to political firestorm in a hurry.

Illhan Omar lists a California winery on her financial disclosures. You can see them below. The winery name is ‘eStCru LLC.’
In 2023 it was valued at $15k.
In 2024 it was valued at $5 Million (!!!)
This must be a very successful winery to grow that much in value over one year. Except… the winery does not even exist:
- No phone line
- No physical winery
- Social media gone dark
- A barely functional ‘website’
- No wine lol
What is this?!
It gets worse: Omar’s third husband, Tim Mynett, has been accused of defrauding investors through this FAKE winery. He was sued by the investors for millions because it’s all fraudulent. This is on brand. Minnesota AG Keith Ellison previously worked with Mynett, the same AG who has REFUSED to investigate widespread Somali fraud.
How does a nonexistent winery jump from $15k to $5 million in one year when the company is a ghost? How can Omar claim this fake company provides her millions in assets? Seems like a cover.
