Twas the week before Christmas
Happy Winter Solstice!
December 18th already!
December means many things: Another year coming to an end, a time for reflection, a time for looking ahead. A time for family, bring it on 2026!
We're watching the latest FALLOUT installment "Fallout Season 2" this week.
We didn't win anything on the Powerball 1.25 Billion dollar drawing on Wednesday night! Nobody else won the jackpot either!
December 19th the rains came on Friday a thick fog shrouded the roads the rain blowing sideways at times, lots of gusty wind too. We didn't lose power, lots of folks did. Rose as always was prepared for the worst flashlights out, and water jugs were filled, just in case!
We got to test some of our preps Friday night we got a call from Eversource at 8:30 PM saying they needed to cut power at 9:30 PM to perform maintenance fixing a local outage somewhere, they said we'd lose power for 2 hours, so we should have power back at 11:30 PM. We shut down the TV (right in the middle of the Fallout show we were watching) and waited, then we waited some more.
They didn't cut our power until 11:30 PM, our refrigerator is good for 3 hours before we start melting ice cream in the freezer. We set an alarm for 2:30 AM and went to bed. Rose woke me up when the alarm went off, we opted to not to fire up the generator deciding to use the solar batteries to power the fridge, and pellet stove. The fridge and pellet were pulling 340 watts from my batteries, the pellet alone pulling 150 watts once the igniter went out. System monitoring app saying we have 1 day and 21 hours of power available with both the fridge and pellet stove running. The house was cool at 61 degrees, it was 30 degrees outside so not to bad, the pellet stove brought the temperature up fairly quickly. By 4AM I needed a coffee, 4:30AM I was sitting updating this post by flashlight. 5AM still no power... So we lost zero food, stayed warm, and were able to stay busy.
I'm pretty impressed with the solar battery and inverter setup so far, I can’t run the whole house on it but we can manage the critical stuff without firing up the generator.
Eversource app says 56 houses without power due to maintenance in our area, no ETA on when we'll have power restored. I could hear neighborhood generators running when I let the dogs out.
Powerball soared to 1.5 Billion Friday 12/19, wow!
7:15AM, still no power, 65 degrees in the kitchen, it's gotten colder out at 27 degrees. Batteries at 87% and inverter are doing well that'll provide 19 hours and 15 minutes via batteries.
Eversource updated their outage map, latest update for power restoration is 9AM Saturday morning.
Our power came back on at 7:45AM, Yay! That was a much longer outage than we'd anticipated, 8+ hours in total, so glad my solar panels had the battery bank fully charged, running on batteries beats the heck out of going outside to start the generator at 2:30 in the morning! All's well at the Sanborn house!
Looking at Eversource's outage map there are outages across MA, NH, and Connecticut.
At 9AM Saturday the suns low trajectory across the horizon finally rose just enough above the trees so that my solar panels began the process of recharging my battery bank.
1PM were off to do some grocery shopping, get grain, pick up a couple of Powerball tickets by Monday it's up to 1.6 Billion!
Sunday morning at 8:00AM panels were charging a 1.6A, 21 Watts before the sun was above the trees, batteries are at 86% already. Half an hour later I was charging at 2.1A, and 28 watts!

- Setup the humidifier downstairs.
Monday my solar batteries are nearly 93% charged, 16.29A and 234 Watts at 9:30AM, we'll probably hit 100% today!
Yup, we got our annual fruitcakes, a couple for the freezer and 1 out, I cut off and ate a piece, not bad. We mostly feed it to the birds who seem to like it more than us!
6 deer came in Monday evening as well as a couple of rabbits, earlier in the evening 2 raccoons.
Rose made meatloaf for dinner, one of my Favs.
Powerball is up to 1.7 Billion.
We had one of these growing up, remember? The presto Hot Dog cooker (electrocuter?)
Tuesday it snowed, we had ~4" on the ground by Wednesday morning, Rose made some brownies and a chocolate cake.
Plow guy showed up at 6:15 AM, we were hoping we wouldn't get plowed, oh well. We've got to shovel and snow blow this morning, ugh!
Wednesday December 24th, Christmas Eve is upon us!

GDP Growth in the 3rd quarter just hit 4.3%.
HUGE! U.S. Economy Blows Past Expectations, Grows Massive 4.3 Percent in Third Quarter
- CBS News reported:
- The U.S. economy grew at a blistering 4.3% annual pace in the third quarter, according to new government data released Tuesday.
- That growth in U.S. GDP — the nation’s output of goods and services — far outpaced the forecast for 3% growth, according to economists polled by financial data firm FactSet. The third-quarter figure, released by the Commerce Department, reflects an uptick from the second quarter’s annualized growth of 3.8%.
- An uptick in consumer spending and exports was the main driver of the GDP growth.
- CNN Business reported:
- An acceleration in consumer spending, up 3.5% from 2.5% in the second quarter, and exports, up 8.8% from -1.8% in the second quarter, were the main contributors to the third-quarter GDP reading.
- Though very backward-looking, given the release was delayed due to the government shutdown, the report likely means the Federal Reserve has less need to cut rates to support the economy when it reconvenes next month.
- Donald Trump celebrated the news, saying, “The TARIFFS are responsible for the GREAT USA Economic Numbers JUST ANNOUNCED.”
- Truth Social:
- The TARIFFS are responsible for the GREAT USA Economic Numbers JUST ANNOUNCED…AND THEY WILL ONLY GET BETTER! Also, NO INFLATION & GREAT NATIONAL SECURITY. Pray for the U.S. Supreme Court!!! President DJT
- Trump was right, the experts were wrong.
Reiterating: nobody on the left is happy about this good news. I will never understand the cult of perpetual misery they've got going on over there. I really don't want them ever to have enough power again to force the misery on us the way they did for the four years that preceded President Trump's return to the Oval Office.

‘Yes, We Stole the Election. Oopsie.’
Do you believe the the democratic process?
Five years after the election — when it is too late to rectify the crime, and never mind all the injury inflicted on those branded “election deniers” for protesting this fraud — we learn the truth.
We have laws for a reason. But it is increasingly clear that the Democrats don't believe in the law. Not election law. Not the law against stealing. They want to rule the chaos, or so it seems to me.
